MEDIA LITERACY CONFERENCE - Call for Papers

 

The MEDIA LITERACY CONFERENCE, co-hosted by the Media Education Association and the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media in partnership with Ofcom offers a long awaited forum and interdisciplinary networking space for teachers, academics and policy-makers engaged in developing media education in a variety of contexts. The conference will feature keynote speakers with international profiles in media education and discussion panels, along with an academic strand of presented papers.

 

The International Journal of Learning and Media and the Media Education Research Journal will invite presenters to submit papers after the conference for review.

 

DEADLINES

  • JUNE 1 2010: Submission of abstracts and thematic panel proposals.

 

  • JULY 1 2010: Notification to the authors regarding acceptance, based on double blind review.

 

  • NOVEMBER 1 2010: Submission of final written papers, which will be included on a conference CD.

 

RULES FOR SUBMISSION

Only abstracts submitted via the online form will be sent to the Abstract Review Committee for review. Abstracts submitted by fax will not be accepted. If you do not have access to the internet please contact the Conference Secretariat.

  • Media education and cultural/educational policy

  • Media education and media research
  • Media Studies 2.0
  • Assessment and evaluation in media education
  • Media education and literacy
  • Teacher and student identities
  • International developments in media education

 

PAPER SUBMISSION

Abstracts should be presented as 250 word summaries of the paper to be presented, with four key words, names and affiliations of authors and correspondence details for the lead author. Abstracts should describe the aims and focus of the paper, the research methodology and main arguments.

 

THEMATIC PANEL PROPOSAL SUBMISSION

In the case of thematic panel proposals, chairs should gather abstracts (3-4 per panel) and submit these with an overall rationale.

Only abstracts of authors who have paid their registration fees will be scheduled for presentation and included in the Abstract CD Rom.

Please contact the Secretariat if you have not received confirmation that your abstract has been received by the Committee by Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

 

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

Before you begin, please prepare the following information:

 

      • Your contact details (the “proposer”):
        • Email address
        • Full postal address
        • Phone number
      • Author and co-authors' details:
        • Forenames and last name
        • Affiliation details: department, institution
        • Email address
      • Abstract title
      • Abstract text (suggested number of words: 250 per abstract)
      • Four key words

 

No tables, graphs or images can be included in the abstract.

 

All abstracts must be submitted and presented in clear English with accurate grammar and spelling of a quality suitable for publication. If you need help, please arrange for the review of your abstract by a colleague who is a native English speaker, by a university scientific publications office (or other similar facility) or by a copy editor, prior to submission.

 

DISCLOSURE OF FACULTY RELATIONSHIPS – POLICY STATEMENT

The Conference requires that audiences at this educational program be informed of a presenter’s academic and professional affiliations, as well as other commercial relationships relevant to the content of the material that is presented. This policy allows the listener/attendee to be fully informed regarding any possible conflict of interest in evaluating the information being presented. These situations may include, but are not limited to 1) stock options or bond holdings, 2) research grants, 3) employment (full or part time), 4) ownership or partnership, 5) consulting fees or other remuneration received by the presenter or his/her immediate family, 6) non-remunerative positions of influence such as officer, board member, trustee or public spokesperson. The disclosure should be shown (by an* in the authors list) for those presenters who have stated that a relationship(s) exists relevant to the topic(s) to be discussed.
